ALBA CALORED 20 Coated is a highly concentrated microencapsulated source of calcium chloride developed specifically for dairy cows during the transition period, particularly in the three weeks before and after calving. The product contains at least 20% calcium from calcium chloride, protected by a coating made from vegetable-origin fatty acids and fats. This coating improves palatability by masking the naturally bitter taste of calcium chloride, helping reduce feed refusal while ensuring good flowability and homogeneous incorporation into transition diets. ALBA CALORED 20 is designed to support the rapid increase in calcium requirements associated with colostrum and milk production, helping maintain adequate blood calcium levels and reduce the risk of clinical and subclinical hypocalcaemia, commonly known as milk fever. Supporting calcium balance during this critical stage can also help reduce problems associated with weakness, poor appetite and impaired mobility after calving
Acidogenic Action for Metabolic Health and Lactation Performance
The nutritional activity of ALBA CALORED 20 Coated is also linked to the acidogenic effect of calcium chloride in the pre-calving ration. By making the diet more acidogenic, the product helps stimulate the cow’s natural mechanisms for mobilising calcium from the bones and improving calcium availability when demand increases sharply. This metabolic adaptation may contribute to reducing the risk of transition-related disorders such as retained placenta, displaced abomasum and mastitis, while supporting a smoother start to lactation. According to the product information, cows supplemented with coated calcium chloride may show improved dry-matter intake, better peak milk production and more persistent lactation performance. The recommended daily dosage is 5–10 g per cow, administered before calving and during the first phase of lactation. The microprill structure, controlled particle size and water-insoluble coating make the product suitable for incorporation into complete feed and specialised transition formulations
