BETAIN ANHYDROUS is a concentrated nutritional product containing at least 97% betaine, developed to support metabolism, nutrient utilisation and production performance across several animal species. Betaine acts primarily as a methyl donor, supplying methyl groups used in important metabolic reactions involved in the synthesis of amino acids, creatine, carnitine and other essential compounds. This activity supports normal liver metabolism and can contribute to reducing the risk of excessive fat accumulation in the liver. The product is also designed to improve nutrient digestibility, feed utilisation and growth performance, while helping reduce abdominal fat and support a higher proportion of breast muscle in poultry. Its nutritional action may also allow the partial substitution of choline and methionine, helping optimise feed formulation and potentially reduce overall feeding costs.
Osmotic Protection During Heat and Environmental Stress
In addition to its role in methyl-group metabolism, betaine functions as an organic osmolyte, helping cells maintain their structure, hydration and normal activity under challenging conditions such as heat stress, dehydration, high dietary salt levels and osmotic imbalance. This protective action is especially valuable during hot periods, when animals may experience reduced feed intake, impaired metabolism and lower productive performance. By supporting cellular water balance and metabolic stability, BETAIN ANHYDROUS can contribute to better resilience, improved feed conversion and more consistent production results. According to the product documentation, the recommended inclusion is 500 g per tonne of feed for poultry for fattening, 300 g per tonne for laying hens, 500 g per tonne for calves, 30 g per dairy cow per day and 1,000 g per tonne for sheep and goats. It can also be used in aquaculture at 10 kg per tonne of feed for fish and crustaceans.
